Expedition to the Whispering Mire was developed for 3rd level characters using the Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition 2024 ruleset, specifically the content featured in the System Reference Document 5.2.1. This adventure takes players across the Whispering Mire in search of a cure to a curse plaguing a fellow traveler.

This adventure takes players across the Whispering Mire in search of a cure to a curse plaguing a fellow traveler.
Within this short development I needed to create a compelling main quest and side quests that all lead to new locations for players to explore. As well, new magical items and creatures were developed to be balanced with existing item rarities and challenge ratings to provide a new experience that is unique to here but also usable in other settings.

I wanted the locale to encourage exploration without causing players to lose their sense of direction. Having multiple paths lead to different parts of the final encounter let me create unique experiences along each branch while still guiding players toward the final challenge.

I learned the value to managing the scope of the project, including cutting things that have higher time investment with minimal impact. As well as formatting work for ease of access to players.
